Houston we have a crib

We purchased a crib today. A few days ago my mom said that Pottery Barn had the white crib that I wanted and it was on sale. So today before she went to work she checked to see if they still had it and they did. I will attempt to attach a picture of the crib, but I am new at all this stuff. I am so excited to actually have a crib because that means there will be a baby someday in the crib. I was with my grandfather when my mom told me about the crib so I told him that we are adopting. He was so cute and so excited for us. So the next steps for the nursery are to hopefully paint next weekend and move the bookcases that are in the room. One bookcase is going downstairs and one is going into the office. Oh, and I guess I should take down the beer poster that is hanging in the room. We have a baby picture in the room too, a stork carrying a little bundle in its mouth. That was our first baby item purchased by my mom. I guess I will take some pictures of the nursery coming together. We need to buy a mattress for the crib, one that meets Baba's approval.

First comment!!!!!

I must say a big thank you to my cousin Lauren for her sweet comment. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends. I know that I could not have made it the past five years without the support of family and friends. This has been such a long journey and appreciate all the people who have been by my side to cheer me on over the years. I read a post tonight on one of the chat boards that I read and the girl spelled her name wrong in her adoption profile. So even though I put our last name in the book, at least I spelled it correctly. I think the stress of it all really gets to people. I have had so many positive thoughts and comments about the adoption in the past two days, it makes me so happy.
Since I think I am getting sick, I'm going to keep this short and go rest. Thanks again for reading the blog and keep the comments coming.

Accepting comments (but only good ones)

So I have now created a blog, figured out how to enable comments and have one follower. This is a whole new world. I can't wait until I have pictures to share on my blog. I love reading other adoption blogs because it makes me feel a little less alone. Since I am the only one in my circle of friends that is adopting or has adopted there is a lot of information to learn. I like to read about people who are waiting like me and success stories that give me hope.
I did receive an email from our social worker here in MD and she is in the process of finalizing the home study report and she will send on down. Even though the final copy is not at the other agency yet it will not prevent us from being shown to birth mothers.
And that's all the info I have today and TGIF;)

3 to 18 months sounds more like 10 years to life

The title of this blog is a bit of a joke, waiting for the adoption time line reminds me a little like a prison sentence. How long is this going to take? 3 to 18 months is what the social worker told me today about how long it will take to get placed with a baby. That is different then a match, a placement is when the baby is actually in your possession. In a perfect world I would get to be a mother before Mother's Day, but that would be pretty amazing. So I will go on hoping and praying.
I did receive a call from the social worker today, she left me a message and I called her back after work. Yes, I said after work, we finally got back today. It was so nice to see the kids.
So back to the phone call. The social worker said that she received the book and loved it. So that was nice to hear. As far as, my mistake with putting our last name in the book I can only hope that is makes us seem more human to the potential birth mother. There are 17 families also waiting. There is no list that we get to climb because the budget, birth mother's desires for an adoptive family and some other stuff I guess determine if we will be shown to the the birth mom. Before we are shown to the birth mother we will be contacted by the social worker and asked told as much information about the birth mother that is available. Then we will decide if we want to be shown. Three families are shown to a birth mother and she selects from those three, or keeps looking if she doesn't like any of those families. So right now the agency doesn't have any birth mothers. The slow months are January, February and March, so hopefully it will get super busy in the spring. And of course with all the snow around here we are really in for a boom of births in the next nine months.
So for now we just wait and wait and wait. I am going to try to paint the baby's room and get it ready for the baby that will someday call the room home. I found some paint colors that I like and may go and get some samples to put on the wall and compare.
Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have about the process.

Finally Back to work tomorrow

Well the vacation is coming to an end which is great! We had off today which was unexpected. I know things are going to be so crazy when we go back. We will be in school until August. My only hope is that we get a baby before then and I won't be in school all summer.
I called the social worker today and left a message on her cell phone. I asked her to call me back and didn't receive a call back. I asked her how many families are waiting which is what the office girl was suppose to ask her the other day. I have not heard back from either of them. I also wanted to make sure that they got the book and were able to black out our last name. I will try the office girl on the phone tomorrow. So needless to say I am not happy about this, but it could be worse. So hopefully some news tomorrow. And hopefully I will be able to think about other stuff since we are getting back to work.
Thanks for listening:)

When will it ever stop snowing?

Soooo tired of the snow! On a happy note, I was able to call down to Louisiana and contact the agency about the mistake in our book. We put our last name, not too bright. Hopefully it will not be too big of a deal. I think they are use to running things slowly down there because the Social worker up here hadn't heard back from them about our homestudy. But she did get a phone call so hopefully the homestudy will be down there and in perfect shape. We are still a waiting family regardless of the fact that they don't have the final draft of the homestudy. So maybe I will call at the end of the week and see what is going on in Baton Rouge.

Meeting Baby Alexa

Today was an awesome day, I got to be the first one to meet baby Alexa. She is so cute and I held her for two hours. I am so happy for Lauren and Mike. The drive up to the Towson was a little tricky but I made it up and back safe and sound. The day ended with a trip to the grocery store which was crazy because we are suppose to get more snow.

Day 1

We will see if this works. I wanted to start blogging so that I could comment on our adoption journey. The roller coaster ride might be more fun with more passengers. So here goes nothing.
